WILLIAMS, TENNESSEE (1911-83)
Celebrated American playwright and novelist.
DS: Document Signed. Autographed playbill for “Vieux Carré”, a semi-autobiographical play set in New Orleans. Although he began writing the play shortly after moving to New Orleans from St. Louis in 1938, Williams did not complete it for nearly forty years. Drawing on earlier writings, Williams wrote most of the play in 1976. He prepared revisions for its New York premiere in 1977 and for two productions in England in 1978. The revised text was published by New Directions in 1979.
On the program cover Williams has penned To my dear Jordan with love as ever, Tennessee. Program has been matted with a black and white publicity still of Williams, encased under museum conservation glass and a gunmetal contemporary frame. Also comes with the St. James Theatre playbill program from which the cover was removed.
