Hayes, Helen (1900 – 93)
Popularly hailed as the “First Lady of the American Theatre.” Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, 1950, on her personal letterhead. Response, in part, to a fan: “…an undesirable situation in the theatre.” Accompanied by a 9″x12″ color litho – print portrait of Hayes from an original by Canadian – photographer Yousef Karsh. Miss Hayes as a two – time Academy Award – winning actress whose career spanned nearly 70 years. She was one of few actors to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. A woman of consummate elegance. Perhaps you remember her role as Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna in “Anastasia” (1955) opposite Ingrid Berman and Yul Brenner.
