Gedda enjoyed a long and successful operatic career until age 77 in June 2003, when he made his final operatic recording. A skilled linguist, Gedda performed operas in French, Russian, German, Italian, English, Czech and Swedish…even in Latin! In January 1958, he created the part of “Anatol” in the world premiere of the American opera “Vanessa” at the Metropolitan Opera. Having made two hundred recordings, Gedda was one of the most widely recorded of opera singers in history. He was praised for the beauty of tone, vocal control and musical perception.
