Fiske, Rev. Charles (1863 – 1942)
Celebrated American Episcopal bishop (Central New York; 1924-36). Coadjutor Bishop of New York and Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church
AQS – Autograph quotation signed, (circa 1926) mounted to a small card bearing a newsprint image of the bishop. Features a wonderful quotation still relevant today: I rather think, in the present state of religion in America, that I like best this of Robert Louis Stevenson: ‘It is not my business to make anybody else good; it is my business to make my self good and other people happy.’ Most people among Protestant religionists in America today seem to be engaged in regulating other people’s morals & endeavoring to standardize other people’s brains. Yours truly, Charles Fiske.
