Ferber, Edna (1885 – 1968)
American novelist, short story writer, playwright. One of the acclaimed members of the Algonquin Roundtable.
Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, 1954, on her personal letterhead. Wonderful content evocative of Ferber’s brilliant wit. Reply to a young man stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia: Here is the picture you asked for and I am sorry that I am not more the pin – up girl type. I am happy to know that your interest in books causes you to want the photograph of a writer. Pro-fessionally double matted and framed. Overall measure 17″x14″. Accompanied by a plate of U.S. mint commemorative stamps honoring the novelist – playwright as well as a brief typeset biography. A highly desirable letter of this often – overlooked American writer.
NOTA BENE: In the 1990’s, formerly successful biographer/writer, Lee Israel, attempted to reboot her career by turning to literary forgery. She was very successful in replicating letters and autographs of many famous, one of which was Edna Ferber. Even a few respected dealers were fooled. Fortunately, we have fully vetted this letter and guarantee its authenticity. The audacious Lee even authored a book on her forgery career. Some gall that lady.
