Italian cardinal. Auditor of the Sacred Rota. Archbishop of Ravenna. Created a cardinal in 1838. Secretary of Memorials. Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals (1859 until his death).

LS – Letter Signed, one page with integral address panel; Rome 19 April 1853.  Written to a nobleman in Bologna. Falconieri mentions preparation for a visit of Pius IX to Ravenna (the cardinal was Bishop of Ravenna), which took place a few months after this letter and that it was a success. The cardinal always had a reforming attitude in difficult times, oriented to conversion, charity and purity of preaching the Gospel, even against the enemies of the Church and the revolutionaries. This attitude and his life made Falconieri much respected by people from all classes of society. He goes on to thank the writer for congratulating him on being named Secretary of the Memorial. Other than usual folds in very good to fine condition. Still bears the intact red-wax seal.

Falconieri was the son of Marquis Alessandro Falconieri Mellini and Marianna Lante Montefeltro della Rovere, of the dukes of Bomarzo. He was a relative of Cardinals Lelio Falconieri (1643) and Alessandro Falconieri (1724). His great great grandfather was Duke Ippolito Lante Montefeltro della Rovere.
