DILLER, PHYLLIS (1913-2017)
American stand-up comedian, actor, author, pianist and visual artist, best known for her eccentric stage personae, self-deprecating humor, wild hair and clothes…not to mention her exaggerated, cackling laugh. It was my privilege to know Phyllis for 34 years (when I first conducted a two-hour interview with her at Holiday Star Theatre, Merrillville, Indiana).
TLS – Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, 1989. Addressed to this dealer: You mention Lucille Ball, Joan Davis and Eve Arden, Fanny Brice and Mae West and then you say Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers are not really pioneers of STAND-UP comedy. The key words are “stand up”. All those women were comic actresses. Not a stand-up[ amongst them. Fanny Brice worked with a guy. I hope your new project is humming along. Godspeed, Phyllis. Accompanied with a 8″x10″ black and white publicity still.
