DAVIS, Bette (1908 – 89)
Acclaimed star of stage, screen and television; author.
ISP – Inscribed/signed 8″x10″ black/white, matte – finish portrait, professionally matted. A rather plain image of Davis…evocative of her practical, no frills nature.
With a career spanning 60 years, Davis was regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hollywood. She was noted for playing unsympathetic, sardonic characters, and famous for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films, suspense horror, and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas.
Davis was the first woman to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. She also was the recipient of two Academy Awards for Best Actress. In 1999, Davis placed second behind Katharine Hepburn on the American Film Institute’s list of the “greatest female stars of the Classic Hollywood cinema era.”
