The first sovereign of Vatican City State from its creation as an independent state in February 1929 with the signing of the Lateran Treaty. Vice Prefect and Prefect of the Vatican Library. Papal diplomat. Archbishop of Milan. Pope Benedict XV created him a cardinal in 1921. The following year Benedict died and Ratti became his successor as Pius XI.
DS – Document Signed – An oversized, hand-calligraphic apostolic benediction to a woman and her family, very boldly signed and featuring a handsome studio portrait by Felici. Document bears the blind-embossed papal seal to the left. Some isolated foxing on both sides of the photographic image, well away from the calligraphic dedication and signature. Overall in very good condition. Nota bene: Blessing shipped without glass and frame. Nominal additional charge for shipping owing to size.
