Description:American comedian, actress, writer, producer and TV host most noted for her often controversial comedic persona. Mother of writer-producer Melissa (Rosenberg) Rivers. It was this dealer’s privilege to know Ms. Rivers for nearly 32 years, having first interviewed her in 1982.
TLS – Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, August 1990, on her business letterhead. Written just three years following the tragic suicide of her long-time husband, producer Edgar Rosenberg. Charming letter concerning the award of an Emmy. Reads: Dear Ron: Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a sweet greeting. It really meat a lot to me that you took the time and effort to congratulate me. Winning the Emmy Award was such a tremendous and unexpected thrill. Knowing that I have such supportive fans like you has really helped me pull through the bad times and hearing from you now makes success that much sweeter. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and may your days be filled with much love, happiness and, of course, laughter. Undoubtedly, the “bad times” referred to in her letter were the firing from The Tonight Show, estrangement from long-time pal Johnny Carson, and the suicide three years earlier of her producer husband, Edgar Rosenberg. Tragically, Miss Rivers died in 2014, the result of a botched outpatient surgical procedure to correct a problem with her vocal chords. As a result of alleged malpractice, a lawsuit is ongoing.
Letters with this content from Rivers are uncommon. Desirable as such.
