Walter Fenner “Buck” Leonard spent his entire 17-year Negro League career with the Homestead Grays, longer than any other player in the history of the league spent with
one team.

DS – Document Signed – September 1989 personal check entirely in the handwriting of Leonard and signed. Comes with two baseball cards in good to very good condition: (1) 2001 Topps “50 Years” Homestead Grays #WCB3 and (2) 2006 SP Legendary Cuts MLB #96 Homestead Grays #W87X.

Leonard was a fixture at All-star games, garnering 12 selections and was a member of three Negro League championship teams (1943, 1944, 1948). Leonard hit fourth behind “”the black Babe Ruth””, Josh Gibson and therefore was nicknamed the “”black Lou Gehrig”” mirroring the one-two punch of the New York Yankees. From 1934-1948, Leonard unofficially batting .320 with 60 home runs, 471 hits, 352 runs, 275 RBI and a shocking .527 slugging percentage. The Negro Leagues Committee elected Walter Fenner “”Buck”” Leonard to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.
