Raye began her career in vaudeville at the age of three. She was signed by Paramount in the mid – 1930s. After 1950, Miss Raye worked nightclubs and TV, while still doing the occasional movie. Hugely patriotic, she made numerous appearances in the US and abroad before US and Allied troops. For a lifetime of giving, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1993, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Academy Award in 1968, and was a Legend Nominee in the 1999 American Film Institute’s “100 Years – 100 Stars” program. She appeared in nearly 25 films.
