MARTINEZ-SOMALO, Eduardo (1927- )
Spanish cardinal; longtime member of the Roman Curia in the Secretariat of State for General Affairs.

Martinez went on to serve as papal nuncio in Colombia. Created a cardinal by Pope St. John Paul II in 1988. Served as Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments. Also served as Prefect of the Congregation of Institutes for Consecrated Life. Martinez was a close collaborator with John Paul II.
