HELLMAN, Lillian (1905-84)
American dramatist and screenwriter known for her success as a playwright on Broadway.
SP – Signed Photograph: 8″x10″ black and white litho print portrait removed from a 1941 theatrical playbill for “Watch On the Rhine”. Perfect for display. Portrait signed on the lower white mount in ballpoint pen ink. Accompanied by the original playbill (was adapted to the screen in 1943).
Among Hellman’s literary successes are: The Autumn Garden, Toys in the Attic, The Children’s Hour, The Little Foxes, Julia. Hellman was long romantically-linked to fellow writer and activist Dashiell Hammett, author of the classic detective novels “The Black Falcon and “The Thin Man”. Both Hellman and Hammett were blacklisted for ten years for their alleged affiliation with The Communist Party.
