ALS – Autograph Letter Signed, one page, Toronto, 1953. Extremely uncommon letter with excellent content. The best Roland Hayes letter we have ever offered. Reads: The photograph of Mme. Ponselle arrived safely and I am so delighted to have it – particularly with the kind sentiment she has written on it. You are good to have obtained it for me and I want to write directly to Rosa Ponselle to express my appreciation. Is her address that which I see written at the top of the envelope you sent the picture in ‘Villa Pace, Balto, MD’? My wife and I are spending a few days in Canada before my tour begins on October 20th. I wrote ‘Dom’ the places and dates of my Autumn recitals settled up to this date which are: Lieder series of 3 recitals in Atwater, OK; Oct 20, 22 and 24, Chicago; Oct 27th Vassar College, Nov 19; Carnegie Hall Sunday night, Nov 29th. Again, many thanks for the picture of MMe. With kind regards from my life and me. Roland Hayes.
We recommend Angel Mo’ And Her Son Roland Hayes, by MacKinley Helm. Wonderful biography.
