There must have been something in the waters of Bologna. Biffi was a staunchly-conservative Catholic and, from some reports, a nationalist who opposed immigration. He held some rather controversial views, declaring in 2000 that the anti-Christ was a renowned philanthropist, vegan and pacifist who supported ecumenism.
