"The Most Trusted Man in America"
CRONKITE, WALTER LELAND (1916-2009) American broadcast journalist, best known as anchorman for the CBS Evening News for 19 years (1962-81). During the heyday of CBS News in the 1960s and 70s, he was often cited in viewer opinion polls as the most trusted man in America because of his professional experience and kindly demeanor. Although he reported many events from 1937-81, including bombing in WWII, the Nuremberg trials, combat in the Vietnam War, the death of JFK, Watergate, adn the Iran hostage Crisis, he was known for extensive TV coverage of the US space program. He was the only non-NASA recipient of a Moon-rock award. The Beatles' first American TV broadcast was with Walter Cronkite. Following one of his central tenets to "report the news, don't become it," the title "anchor" was invented as his role. In later years, he appeared as a host or guest-star in many TV broadcasts. Postal first day cover honoring another journalist, Walter Lippman, signed in blue marker pen. Professionally matted along with a 11"x14" black and white litho print portrait of Cronkite with his ever present pipe, from an original by Canadian photographer Yousef Karsh. KANDER, JOHN (1927 - ) Composer of a series of musical theatre successes as part of the songwriting team of Kander and Ebb. Among their hits are: Cabaret; Flora the Red Menace; Chicago; Woman of the Year; Kiss of the Spider Woman; Fosse; Curtains; Funny Lady (six songs); New York, New York (four songs). Mr. Kander also scored numerous movies including Places in the Heart; Billy Bathgate; An Early Frost; Kramer vs. Kramer. Typewritten Note Signed, one page monarch size, on personalized notepaper, no date, no place, but circa 1978. Signed "John" and written to the late Paulette Attie, founder of the National Musical Theatre. Reads: "At the moment the only opening for a woman in our review is for a black, which -- unless my memory is more than slightly faulty -- makes you an unlikely prospect. But one of these days I'm sure we will work together. Hope things continue to go well for you. All the best, John." (We believe Kander may have been referring to "The Act" starring Liza Minnelli. $ 50
PERON, JUAN (1895-1974) Argentine colonel and politician, elected President of Argentina three times after serving in several government positions including Labor Secretary and Vice President. He returned to power in 1973 and served for nine months, until his death in 1974 when he was succeeded by his third wife Isabel Martínez. Perón and his second wife, Eva, were immensely popular among many of the Argentine people and are still considered icons by the Peronist Party. Dedicated and signed formal portrait dated October 1951. Text in Spanish: A la senora Dona Alba Maria de Ramirez, con todo mi afecto y considera-cion, Buenos Aires, 5 de octubre 1951. Text in English: To Mrs. Alba Maria Rodriguez, with all my love and regards." Image size 6.5"x8.5". Fine condition other than top corners lightly bent and with a light crease at bottom right that is barely affecting the signature. Professionally matted and encased in museum conservation glass and an ornate, gilt-wooden, frame. $ 525

HUBBARD, ELBERT (1856-1915) - Author, publisher, lecturer, philosopher, founder of the Roycroft Movement. Died tragically with the sinking of the Lusitania. Desirable one-page, Typewritten Letter Signed on Roycroft letterhead, 1912, promoting his Fra subscription services. Very good condition. Accompanied by a 4"x6" sepia tone litho-print image of Hubbard. Professionally double-matted in dark green and siena tones, encased in glass and a handsome wood frame. $ 395
ROOSEVELT, ANNA ELEANOR (1884-1962) - First Lady, author, United Nations representative, humanitarian. White House Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, 1940, to a Texas State Representative regarding the adoption of a child by one of his constituents. Accompanied by original envelope. Professionally double-matted along with a 5"x7" black and white, matte-finish photograph of Mrs. Roosevelt speaking before the United Nations. Under glass and gilt wooden frame. $ 750

CAHN, SAMMY (1913-93) Four time Academy-Award winning lyricist, songwriter and musician. He is best known for his romantic lyrics to Tin Pan Alley and Broadway songs, as recorded by Frank Sinatra, doris Day and many others. Typewritten Note Signed, no date, New York. To Paulette Attie, founder of the NY Musical Theatre Company. "I am terribly sorry to have to tell you that I simply won't be able to attend your event! I am leaving New York for address bottom left April 27th (after ASCAP meetings) and so I am just not able to be there! You know I wish you all 'cahn-cerned' the highest of HIGH HOPES." $ 75
WIESEL, ELIE (1928- ) Romanian-born novelist and human rights activist. His life has been devoted to writing and speaking about the Holocaust, with the aim of ensuring that it is never forgotten. Wiesel was one of the principal forces behind establishing the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. His first novel, Night (1956), was first published in Yiddish, and is based on his experiences in the death camps. Other novels include Dawn (1961) and Jews of Silence (1967). He has authored plays, retellings of biblical stories, and Hasidic tales. In 1986 Wiesel received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work as a "messenger to mankind". Signature on a white card, professionally matted in rich burgundy leatherette board along with a color, lithoprint portrait of Wiesel from an original photograph by Yousef Karsh of Ottawa. WILLIAMS, TENNESSEE (1911-83) One of the most celebrated playwrights of the 20th Century. Signed playbill for Vieux Carre, which has been professionally mattd with a 8"x10" black and white glossy photograph of the writer. Williams has dedicated the St. James Theatre playbill thus: "To my dear Jordan, with love always, Tennessee." Matted in a pearl-grey suede board, encased in glass and a burnished dark metallic frame. Overall measurements are 16.5"13.25" $ 650
NUREYEV, RUDOLPH (1938-93) Legendary Russian ballet dancer. Made his debut at Covent Garden (1962). His virtuosity and expressiveness made him one of the greatest male dancers of the 1960s, in both classical and modern ballet. Signed small program card for a performance in Binghamton, New York. Professionally matted along with a striking 11”x14” b/w litho print photograph of Nureyev in character. $ 195

PLACING AN ORDER – We distinguish between an inquiry and an order. If, however, we do not hear back from you on an inquiry, we can only assume you are not interested. Once an order has been placed, we actively remove merchandise from active inventory and reserve it. Thus it is not available to anyone else. PLEASE, if you place an order, remit payment within three business days or inventory returns to our catalogue. Repeated incidence of late or non-payment is not fair to existing a new clientele who may be interested in a particular item. We appreciate your understanding.

All items that we offer are subject to prior sale. Prices are in effect
at the time of offering but may change without notice. New York
residents must add 8.75% sales tax. Telephone

New clients who have not established a relationship with us, and
who pay by personal check, are asked to wait seven to 10 days for
drafts to clear our bank before merchandise is shipped.
PayPal is a widely-accepted, fully-secure method of sending monies
worldwide. Many of our clients already use PayPal. Not only does
PayPal send confirmations of money transfers but it also provides
buyer and seller with a detailed record of transactions for accounting
purposes (especially helpful for insurance purposes). Although we
guarantee everything that we sell, PayPal also offers added protection
to buyers.
Important – please note: If you purchase anything from our
catalogue sampling, using the PayPal Buy It Now link below, it will
be necessary to confirm the shipping and insurance fees before processing
your payment. Please first contact us by telephone or e-mail to
determine what these additional fees will be. We generally ship
via U.S. Postal Service: priority mail, certified or insured. While
the majority of our clients are within the continental United States,
we also have clients in Europe and Asia. Please understand that
shipment overseas will be Air Parcel Post, with shipping rates variable
depending upon the country of delivery.
Layaway – Young people and those on a limited budget find
layaway an excellent means of acquiring material. Our terms are
simple. On purchases of $200 or more, a client may place an item
or items on 90-day layaway with a one-third, non-refundable deposit.
Equal payments are due at 60 and 90 days, at which time material
is shipped. All material remains our sole property until such time
as the terms of layaway are fully met. There is no additional charge
for layaway.
